Dish of the Day
Just some film musings of a more succinct, spontaneous and sometimes seditious nature:

Today, in our Facebook chat room (all readers are welcome to join here), a member asked: “Whose acting style do you like the most among these 3 fine actresses…
… Huppert, Winslet or Blanchett?”
To which I joyfully responded:
“All three performers have proven to have reached an extreme upper tier of acting ability. My answer, therefore, depends entirely on the part being played, who's directing and in what motion picture the actress is appearing in.
For example, Isabelle Huppert gives the heart aching performance of a lifetime in The Lacemaker but is allowed so little to contribute to Heaven's Gate, it's easy to forget she's even in the picture.
Kate Winslet in Titanic helps sink the ship by overacting (at least she matches the approach taken by the other principle cast members) but substantially uplifts Holy Smoke and Revolutionary Road in which her consummate craftsmanship is applied to characters allowed to breathe with sincerity and substance.
And finally, Cate Blanchett proves beyond any doubt she's one of the world's top believable actresses in Blue Jasmine but hasn't a prayer with her character’s lack of complexity in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
Please don't get me wrong; I love questions like this and would enjoy giving the same kind of cagey response in regards to any other group of actresses... or actors for that matter.
All responses are not only welcomed but encouraged in the comments section below.
Hope to see you tomorrow.
