"Now Listen to Me..."

Just some thoughts on current happenings:

The recommended video release of the month is the wondrously adventuresome Sullivan's Travels on Blu-ray.

This film has so much going for it. There's romance, comedy, life's hardships, a journey of self-discovery, even brilliant satire regarding the movie industry. No one could tell us more about their distinctive characters through enlivened and witty dialogue than the sole writer and director here, Preston Sturges. More info on Sullivan's Travels and other new releases can be found on the Cinema Cafe's New Releases Pinterest Board. For this month, the recommended Soundtrack is the recently re-released 2 C.D. set of composer Hugo Friedhofer's romantically thematic score to One-Eyed Jacks, a very limited (1,000 units only), second release on the Kritzerland label.

Like the first issue, this title is bound to sell out fast. It can currently be purchased through Screen Archives Entertainment by clicking on the image. (Screen Archives ships worldwide).

The recommendation for those enjoying Turner Classic Movies in the U.S. this May is The Hill, one of cinema's most intense dramatic achievements. I will have more to say about this hard-hitting British gem here. The Hill is scheduled to air on TCM Saturday, May 24 at 2:45 pm PST. The current month's schedule can be viewed by clicking on the image below.
