Dish of the Day
Just some film musings of a more succinct, spontaneous and sometimes seditious nature:

Another hot topic that has arisen in our Facebook chat room (all readers are welcome to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/902349343110685) coincides with a joke recent Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel made about Nicole Kidman’s taped appearance for AMC movie patrons from an empty theatre urging people to return to the theatres to see motion pictures. The most prominent post in our room questioned the sincerity of celebrities who, like Kidman, are trying to get people out of the house to see movies the way they were meant to be seen.
This prompted my brief response as follows:
“Despite mass shootings, unbearable traffic, stupid drivers on their cell phones who do whatever they want, parking nightmares, soaring ticket costs, unruly patrons, ridiculous prices for junk food, endless commercials and last but not least, the takeover of conceptualised and commodified fare that have more in common with what is sold at the candy bar than sophisticated storytelling, I’m supposed to go to a movie theatre instead of wait and avoid all that nonsense on my TV? I tell you what, some of these big names who are pleading with the public to support their films in theatres should announce when and where they will join those who attend select screenings! That will get more to turn out.”
Speaking of going to the movie theatre, here’s just a reminder for those living in or around the Los Angeles area of California or movie buffs planning on being there today: the Secret Movie Club is presenting at the Secret Movie Club Theater a double bill of Hi Mom! (1970, a 35mm print) and Who’s That Knocking at My Door? (1967) on Wednesday, March 15.
